All of us know that sleeping is an important part of our life. Now, some recent studies show that women need more sleep than men because they have more complex brain.
The director of the Sleep Research Centre, professor Jim Horne has a great explanation on the importance of sleeping. He says that poor sleep is strongly associated with high levels of psychological distress and greater feelings of hostility for women, which are not associated with the same degree of sleep disruption in men. He explains that women’s brains work harder according to science, so women need more sleep to allow their brains to recover and repair itself.
Women are used to expose their brains to more strenuous activities and they need more time to recover completely and the best way to achieve this is by sleeping.
To improve the quality of your sleep, first, you should have a sleep routine, which can help your brain to recognize the need to slow down. You should also avoid foods that act as stimulants before going to bed, including: coffee, cacao or chocolate, sugar, etc. since they can have a negative effect on your brain and lead to insomnia.
Meditation is also a great way to improve your sleep since it helps your brain to settle and relax. You can also try yoga or take melatonin, usually one hour before going to bed.
